By Rebecca Belt/Photos: Barry Smith QUILTERS across Tamworth stitched together a popular show in the city at the weekend, even attracting visitors from interstate. Tamworth Regional Craft Shed arts and crafts treasurer Beverly Gilkes said the weekend had gone “extremely well”. The show included about 25 quilts, ceramics, bonsai, felting and other arts and crafts, as well as a trading table. “We had a few people from interstate come through yesterday, and a lot of people who said they didn’t know the shed was even here,” Mrs Gilkes said. “A lot of quilters come in and have a look, as well as those who aren’t involved.” All the quilts were produced by the members of the Craft Shed Arts and Crafts, and they display them every two years. “Once this one is over, we will start planning for the next one,” Mrs Gilkes said. “Quilting is therapy on most parts. A lot of talking goes on and it’s about the friendship and company.” For those who worked up a hunger or thirst while admiring the handiwork of local artisans, the kitchen also cooked up morning and afternoon teas and sandwiches were available. It also proved a crafty way to raise funds for the region’s Westpac Helicopter Rescue Service, which collected gold coins at the entry. There was a lucky door prize for those who attended, and a quilt and bonsai for raffles.
