Scott played in the very first Origin match back in 1980 and will join an exciting list of players from his era and every era since including a few who have only just stepped down from the pinnacle of rugby league.
Ash Harrison, Shaun Berrigan and Petero Civoniceva headline the recently-retired Queensland stars, while local products Tom Learoyd-Lahrs and Quirindi’s Ben Smith will have the youngster tags in the NSW side along with Mark O’Meley.
Last year it was David Peachey and Nathan Blacklock who combined well to lift the roof at Jack Woolaston Oval with a series of chip and chases and flick passes that could be re-ignited this year with both re-joining the Blues’ backline.
Organiser and former Maroon star Craig Teevan said the Legends of League couldn’t wait to return to Tamworth after getting such a good response last year and are expecting to breach the 3000 spectator mark they got last year with a huge day of action that includes five curtain-raisers.
“Tamworth Regional Council has got on board with us this year and have let us use their social media platforms to get the word out,” Teevan said.
“There are some local blokes playing in the Legends as well as some great games beforehand.
“The weather looks good and it will be a picnic-style atmosphere for the whole family.”
Teevan said that having a good spread of the recently-retired players through both sides makes for an exciting match, and also gives a link for the younger fans to connect with as well as the legends of yesteryear like Greg Florimo, Max Krilich, Ivan Cleary, Kevin Campion and plenty of others.
“It is always a good day out,” Teevan said. “We have a great ground announcer and the kids can come out on the field, meet the players and have some fun.”
The curtain-raisers will include a tri-series between North Tamworth, West Tamworth and Oxley Diggers first grade sides, a league tag clash between North and Werris Creek as well as a host of junior and minor league games.
Tickets at the gate will be $12 for an adult and $5 for kids, with gates opening at midday and first game kicking off at 12.30pm.
