Seven-time world champion surfer Layne Beachley, 12-time Tour de France cyclist Robbie McEwen and Sunrise sports presenter Mark Beretta were among 200 guests at Armidale City Bowling Club for the Sports Lovers Lunch.
Guests in the audience were lucky enough to hear amazing stories on the highs and lows of sporting careers which have taken Beachley and McEwen around the world.
A silent auction was also held to raise more funds, with 18 of McEwen’s cycling jerseys selling for $250 each.
Event organiser Jacqui Munday was thrilled with the turnout.
The final tally from the event, which raised funds for Tour de Cure, is yet to be calculated.
A team of riders from Armidale will be participating in the 10-day cycling event, which starts in Brisbane and finishes in Sydney. Their route will take them through Armidale on May 3.
