It will be Rosers second World Cup in the green and gold, after impressing in Oman two years ago before qualifying for this team with a top performance in Abu Dhabi late last year.
Unfortunately regular teammates Todd Carey and Barry Biffin won’t be joining him on this trip after Carey suffered an injury in a fall at the qualifiers and Biffin has stepped back from representative duties.
Albury pair Jake Van Dorssen and Terry Phillips will join Roser, as well as Macksville rider Neville Rathbone and Young’s Des Clark will be reserve.
At 31 Roser will be the youngest member of the experienced national team and with Australia starting to peg back the world’s powerhouses of the sport the team is hoping to go fairly deep into both the team and individual competitions.
“The middle eastern nations are always good and have big associations backing them,” Roser said.
“Although at the moment South Africa are the team to beat.”
“There will be 10 nations competing this year.”
Roser had the perfect warm up for the World Cup, defending the Royal Easter Show title he won last year, although he and teammates Brad Guerney and Doug and Barry Biffin fell eight points short of the winners to finish second in tough competition.
“A team from the Light Horse beat us and most of them are blokes from Tamworth, so that was good,” Roser said.
The team will fly out for Cairo this weekend with the individual competition starting on Wednesday.
