It will be the second year that the NPG is held, and the brain child of former NIAS chief Jason Lincoln, and current director James Cooper has already cemented its place on the junior sporting calendar, with numbers up by over 500 athletes from the inaugural games last year.
AFL has seen the biggest rise in popularity, with eight teams of 12-a-side trumping last year’s turn out of four teams playing nine-a-side, while hockey and football have also seen significant growth.
“We have grown in numbers and in reach,” Cooper said.
Three Olympic bronze medal winners will also be scouting around the grounds over the games, as well as guest speaking at the official dinner on Saturday night.
While the primary school athletes are flooding to Tamworth, the NIAS athletes are off the Central Coast for their biggest weekend of the year with 72 athletes shipping out today for the ClubsNSW Academy Games.
