FEDERAL Communications Minister Stephen Conroy will visit the University of New England in Armidale today to officially mark the beginning of construction of the Tablelands Clinical School.
The clinical school has been funded by $10.5 million worth of federal funding and will be built at Armidale’s existing hospital in Butler St to deliver GP and allied health services. It will also offer training facilities for local medical students.
Mr Conroy will meet member for New England Tony Windsor, and senior and executive university staff at a sod-turning ceremony at noon.
The visiting parliamentarian will also hear of the university’s revolutionary use of the local National Broadband Network (NBN) connection with its SMART farm project.
The NBN has allowed the project to use video and audio connectivity to track cattle movements and monitor soil moisture.
