Tamworth kicks off family-friendly futsal

THE football season might be over for traditional winter season players, but the Tamworth Sports Dome is taking one code indoors for a Friday night futsal competition.

The Dome will host youth (12-16 years), and senior men’s and women’s divisions in both social and competitive grades from Friday, October 19.

Dome centre manager Peter Dale is aiming for a family-friendly and social atmosphere which will be supported by a lounge area on the first floor for post-game chats, and an activities program for 5- to 11-year-olds on the showcourt, overlooked by this area.

“The idea is that parents can come along and play their own game while younger kids are being entertained on the showcourt, and then pop upstairs after the game for a bite to eat and a drink, all while they keep an eye on the younger ones,” Mr Dale said.

Those people without kids are also encouraged to hang around before and after their games to enjoy the social atmosphere.

It will be five-a-side futsal so teams have to be at least that size, with the season consisting of two eight-week competitions.

If you don’t have a full team, or a team at all but still want to play, you can register and an organiser will endeavour to put you in a team.

“By putting all of these competitions on one night we are hoping to create a social and family- friendly environment where a range of age groups can get active at the same time,” Mr Dale said.

The Dome will also run a junior (7-11 years) competition on Monday afternoons from October 15.
