Ex-NRL star still in police custody

FORMER NRL star Craig Field, who is accused of murdering Kingscliff farmer Kelvin Kane, remains in custody after his case was mentioned briefly in Lismore Local Court yesterday.

The case was mentioned but the court was told the prosecution’s full brief was yet to be received.

Former Rabbitohs captain Field, 39, along with co-accused Shaun Fathers, 41, is charged with the murder of Mr Kane on July 15.

Police allege the pair were involved in an altercation with Mr Kane at the Kingscliff Hotel car park after drinking until closing time.

During the brawl, Mr Kane fell and hit his head, causing a brain haemorrhage.

He later died at Tweed Hospital.

The matter was adjourned until December 4 in Lismore Local Court.
