Second-generation drafter Ben McNaughton will float six horses to Bendemeer from his base in Walcha, including Tiptoe who won the novice horse at the recent ABCRA National Finals Campdraft in Tamworth.
He can also lay claim to winning “a few” campdraft titles as a junior rider.
The 23-year-old rates the Bendy event as “a good fun little campdraft”.
“We’ve been going there for years – won a few too. After our runs, we usually wander over to the rodeo arena and watch that. It’s always a good little rodeo.”
This weekend he will saddle up on the back of last week’s big Landmark Classic Campdraft in Tamworth, where he made the final with one horse.
The McNaughton name was also behind the sale of three horses at the Classic’s feature sale. Ben sold two while his dad, well-known Australian Stock Horse/Quarter Horse-cross breeder and campdrafter Bruce McNaughton, sold one.
Also lining up in the novice draft at Bendemeer will be Ben’s girlfriend Laura MacIntosh, who will be looking to win back-to-back novices with her mare Conmaid.
“They won the novice down there last year,” Ben said.
Patrons heading to Bendy this weekend will be assured of a full program of campdraft and edge-of-the-seat rodeo, which will again be held under lights from 6pm tomorrow.
