THE University of New England had a special visitor on Monday when the Bhutan Ambassador met with students, staff and families.
His Excellency Kezang Wanghi enjoyed lunch with the Bhutanese students and their families at Wright Village, a UNE college, with the visit reinforcing connections between Bhutan and the university.
UNE Vice-Chancellor Jim Barber said the relationship between UNE and Bhutan went back more than 20 years.
There are 26 students from Bhutan studying on campus at UNE.
“As well as working with students on campus, UNE staff continue to assist the Royal University of Bhutan on a number of projects,” Professor Barber said.
“These projects include teacher training, childcare research, PHD development and zoology.
One of the most recognised projects we had with Bhutan was the Multigrade Attachment Program, which concluded in 2008. The program saw teachers from Bhutan travel and study at UNE and UNE staff work on projects to improve teacher training and education delivery in Bhutan.”
His Excellency Kezang Wanghi was also in Armidale yesterday.
While at the university he toured the campus, had the traditional lunch with the
students and their families, a visit to Peterson’s winery and a barbecue at Dumaresq Dam Reservation Park.
