Airlines typically like to make a lot of noise when they start flying to a new destination, but it's not too often one announces it will be flying to a fictional place.

But that's just what happened this week during the NFL Super Bowl, where the notoriously expensive advertisements get almost as much scrutiny as the game itself.
Turkish Airlines took the opportunity to run two advertisements for the new cities it is now flying to: Gotham City and Metropolis.
The unusual thing is that these are not real cities, but the fictional homes of superheroes Batman and Superman. However, the ads treat both destinations like any other typical airline ad, spruiking the cities' supposed tourist highlights.
The campaign is tied in with the upcoming Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice and the airline even managed to get two of the film's stars to appear, in character, in the ads. Ben Affleck appears as Batman's alter ego Bruce Wayne in the Gotham City ad, flying business class (of course) on board a Turkish plane, while Jesse Eisenberg pops up as Lex Luthor in the Metropolis ad (see below - Lex was presumably used since Superman doesn't require a plane to fly!). The videos have already been viewed more than 1.5 million times each on YouTube.
Turkish Airlines is one of the world's fastest-growing carriers and there has been talk that the airline may start direct flights to Sydney in the near future, making it the first carrier to offer direct connections between Australia and Europe.
