When The Leader visited playgroup at the Oxley Vale Public School hall yesterday, there was only a small group in attendance, but they had fun enough for a huge mob.
Time was spent busily during free play, colouring in, craft, storytime and floor play, where the youngsters learnt about sharing and caring for others.
A tiny baby, Tyson Trompa, just five months old, had his first day at playgroup and was made very welcome by others in the group, including big brother Aiden-James (AJ) and his new friend, 22-month-old Lacey Stubbs, who got down on the floor to play with him.
Although the group was only a small one, playgroup facilitator Raelene Trindall said this was unusual, as there’s normally a lot more children.
“Being the first one back for the year, it might have crept up on some people, so we should have a lot more next week,” Ms Trindall said.
TFSS-supported playgroups are held weekly on Tuesdays at Oxley Vale Public School, and Wednesdays at Hillvue Public School, from 10am to noon.
TFSS playgroup coordinator Shuray Tadman said playgroup was a great way to prepare children for the transition into school as well as a wonderful opportunity for you and your child/children to socialise with others.
