For the first time in its 122-year history, TAS has opened its doors to girls across all year levels.

Fifty-three females, enrolled from Transition to Year 12, will study at the school this year, including four senior girls, who started their studies in term four last year.

The new girls include 14 boarders, who come from Sydney, Moree and other areas across the region. 

The school announced the contentious change in April of last year, headmaster Murray Guest saying it was necessary in order for TAS to continue to grow.

The decision came after two months of consultation with staff, students and parents, and didn’t please all, but Mr Guest said at the time there was no cause for concern. 

“The sort of school we are, the breadth of offering and the resources that we have require growth over a period of time and coeducation is seen as the best means of doing that,” he said.

“We’re pretty clear that it is going to be of direct benefit to all of our students and families.”
