Abergel has worked the airbrush magic for almost 15 years and said everything he needed to create the scene of Porter, propped up in the back of a ute with guitar in hand, was right in front of him.
“Everything is there,” he said.
“I just, pretty much, copy detail by detail. I look at the eyes, start with the eyes, and try to grasp the impression of the person, have a quick chat with the dude and get him to smile.”
Porter is back in Tamworth for his third Country Music Festival and thought the annual event was growing year on year.
“I feel like, somehow, it’s bigger, but I couldn’t tell you why. This is my third one and I guess it feels like more people are coming together,” he said.
“There are more artists popping up. There are the same ones from previous years, but just new ones popping up around the place. I hope it gets bigger and bigger every year.
The country star was on stage in Toyota Park on Tuesday night and described the line-up of acts playing stages scattered all over Tamworth this week was like “cocktail rounds”.
“It’s crazy because you don’t know who’s going to come and how many are going to come and then when you’re playing there on the night, it’s the biggest one here in town, and it’s just such an incredible stage to play on and we’re fortunate to have it,” he said.
“There are so many artists and people can go here for an hour and then go there for an hour. I think it’s almost like cocktail rounds: we’re going to get a little bit of this and a little bit of that.”
Porter is anticipating a single release later in the year, and hinted at a new album to come out shortly after, but said official released dates were yet to be decided.
“I can’t say when, but we have a bunch of new songs and we’ll be having some discussions, we’ll call them, and deciding when its going to come out,” he said.
