NARWAN and the Moree Boomerangs both bowed out in the quarter-finals of the 42nd Aboriginal Knockout at Raymond Terrace last night.

The Narwan number one side beat Toomelah 20-18 in a repeat of last year’s first-round clash and then disposed of Owen Craigie’s Koori United 28-10.
In the round of 16 the Eels came up against Boggabilla where two tries to Steve Nean helped set up an 18-6 win.
In the quarter-finals the Murrumbidgee Crows ended Narwan’s charmed run in the competition in the last game of the day.
The Moree Boomerangs found themselves in another controversy before also going out in the quarter-finals.
The Boomies beat the Wellington Wedgetails 22-10 in round one on Saturday and then hammered Brewarrina in round two yesterday.
They came up against a strong La Perouse side in the round of 16 and that’s where the problems occurred.
A brawl saw the game called off early but the Rangs were eventually awarded the game by officials and progressed to the quarter-finals where they were drawn against reigning champions and hosts, the Mindaribba Warriors.
At first, match officials refused to take the field but eventually did so, only for the Warriors to go on and win it 12-4 and knock the Rangs out at the same stage as last year.
Mindaribba will play Griffith Three Ways and Murrumbidgee will take on the Newcastle Yowies in today’s semis, with the final to be held this afternoon.
Of the other local sides, the Narwan Old Boys also looked the goods but were in a tough part of the draw.
They started with a 30-nil win over Worimi and then took on 2010 champions Walgett Aboriginal Connection early yesterday.
Walgett has had a star-studded side for a few years with the likes of George Rose on deck.
But the Old Boys had Mickey and Dennis Moran and came away with a good win, 22-14.
That might have taken too much out of them though as in round three the old Eels came up against Mindaribba and the home side was too strong, 23-10.
The North West Barbarians smashed Mt Druitt 40-6 in round one but then bowed out on Sunday, as did the Inverell Roosters after beating Kalateenee Crickets 30-6 in round one.
The Boomies number two side also won on day one against Doonside but fell to the Coast Sharks yesterday.
Top Camp Swans and Narwan 2 didn’t get through to Sunday after first-round losses.
The Boomerangs under 17s are into their final today against Gunnaral Warriors after beating Inverell, Lana’s Warriors and the Newcastle All Blacks along the way.
