TAMWORTH’S Marg Rock has been deservedly rewarded for her 10 years of work with the Look Good, Feel Better program.
Mrs Rock is the organisation’s 2011 National Volunteer of the Year and received her award at the Dream Ball on September 14 in Sydney.
She was also named the NSW/ACT Volunteer of the Year in June.
Look Good, Feel Better is an organisation that runs workshops in towns and cities, involving women undergoing cancer treatment to make them feel better by doing their make-up and fitting them with wigs or turbans.
Women leave the workshops looking good and feeling better about themselves.
Mrs Rock said she loved being involved and got as much out of the workshops as the participants did.
“For me, it’s not about rewards, it’s about giving back,” she said.
“It’s about making them feel better about themselves. I get equally as much back from it as they do. I do it from my heart.”
She said she shook and cried when she found out she’d won.
Mrs Rock said she’d had so much to do with cancer that she understood what the women in the workshops were feeling.
“The women tell me, ‘You don’t know how good it has made me feel’,” she said.
“I have good volunteers who help me on the day.”
There are five workshops run each year in Tamworth, with the next in November, and involve between 10 to 15 women each time.
As well as co-ordinating the workshops, Mrs Rock also volunteers with the Tamworth Wig Library and the oncology unit at Tamworth hospital, and is a member of the Tamworth Lioness Club.
