The club had races for junior and senior triathletes alike, with 25 seniors competing in a race won by tennis professional Daniel Nash.
Nash is concentrating on triathlons and completed the course in 28mins 43.6secs, almost two minutes quicker than runner-up and young 16-year-old cousin Joshua Nash.
Joshua’s 30mins 21.3secs gave him a 15sec cushion on third-placed Colin Ferguson in 30mins 36.7secs.
The 200m swim-10km bike-2km run was a good test for Daniel Nash, who was helping run a tennis camp at Treloar Park Tennis Club yesterday with around 85 young players involved.
Ranging in age from four years to 16, it is a fun week with skills drills as well as a tournament for the older
juniors.
It is a good job, allowing Nash to also train for a busy triathlon season cranking up with a South West Rocks Triathlon on February 7 and a Coffs Harbour Olympic Distance Triathlon after that.
“It’s all going pretty good,” Nash said yesterday.
“I’m definitely improved on last year.
“I’m the quickest and fittest I’ve ever been – I’m just trying to get faster on everything (swim, bike and run).
“I’m fit enough to race over any distance. I’m just concentrating on getting faster.
“That makes the club races good for that.
“It makes them harder and more intense because I’m trying to go (run, swim and bike) faster.”
He said the club was also trying to develop juniors such as Cameron Blundell, Hannah Partlin and Paige Levingston (pictured) to build the club.
The Tamworth club’s next race is Saturday, February 6 followed by the long course race on Sunday, February 14.
