Lots to see and doin the region on the weekend

Weekend activities range from the weird to the wonderful across the north this long weekend. 

There’s everything on wheels, legs and up in the air to take part in. Among some of the places to go and things to see are:

TAMWORTH

REUNIONS: There’s a 20-year reunion for students who attended Tamworth High School between 1987 and 1992 this weekend in Tamworth. The main event is a celebration at the Goodies tonight from 7o’clock.

CRAFT: It’s open day today at The Craft Shed on Peel St near 

Northgate.

DOGGONE IT: The 2012 Agility Dog Association of Australia Grand Prix is on all weekend at the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre. Entry is free and you can see canines of all shapes, sizes and skills in jumping tests, games and challenge events. 

HORSEY THINGS: Team Penning and Arena Sorting National Championships on at Don Willis Indoor Arena at Tamworth Showground today from 7am and Sunday. Free entry. 

CRICKET: Central North Junior invitational carnival all over Tamworth grounds with JS White Emu Colts carnival at Riverside grounds.

TRUCKIES: An industry reunion at North Tamworth Oval with a Sunday fun day for families and friends. There’s a show and shine too.

BENDEMEER

 Two-day mototrials at Banalasta wine and lavender centre. From 10am today. Riders tackle a tough course across some pretty heavy terrain but there’s a more leisurely spot in the Banalasta tourist centre for the less athletic to watch world go by.

MANILLA

Manilla holds its fifth annual Antiques and Collectors Fair over the weekend in the halls in the main street. About 60 displays and television antiques dealer Gordon Brown will appraise treasures today. 

REUNION: Manilla hosts a weekend celebration for ex-residents in Pioneer Park.

DUNGOWAN

Kootingal Motor Club and Dungowan community holds the second Dungowan Village Fair and Old Machinery Day at Dungowan recreation grounds from 9am tomorrow. Vehicle parade to the local pub and back, horse drawn plough demonstrations, vintage and working tractors, stationary engines, vintage and classic cars, bikes and trucks. There will also be community stalls, activities for the kids, art and craft stalls.

NARRABRI

Skid ‘n’ Cruz Car Show in the grounds of Narrabri RSL today with entries from 6am and judging from 9am. Activities until about 4pm with cars on display, food, live entertainment and kids’ activities.

WALCHA

The trout season opens and Walcha Bowling Club fishing competition begins with weigh-ins from 5pm to 6pm today and noon to 1pm Monday. There’s even a prize for the biggest craybob caught by a kid.

URALLA

Home-grown and fresh produce at Uralla’s Unique Market today from 8am to 1pm. Fresh and organic goods, in Pioneer Park, opposite the Visitor Information Centre and the Espresso Cafe  and ends at 1pm. It’s all about Make it, Bake it or Grow it stallholders. 

INVERELL

Inverell Pioneer Village Machinery Rally today and tomorrow, with pioneer machinery, stationary and steam engines, tractors in the historic setting of Inverell Pioneer Village. Food stalls will operate over the two days.

Emmaville 

Community Centre Gemfest and Swapmeet over the long weekend at Emmaville Caravan Park, and some field trips if weather permits. A fossicker fee for the day but you get lunch and the change to find a fortune. Fossick for topaz, molybdenite, quartz, silver, tourmaline, copper and sapphire. Market stalls operate.

MOREE

Boomi and Garah Garden Days today and tomorrow organised by local garden clubs with tours to the wonderful Barra and Hawthorne property gardens. Tourism Moree has details. 

Moree Aero Club: Moree Warbird Round-Up and Fly-In today and tomorrow – classic warbirds, general aviation and recreational aviation aircraft, and rides, and learner flying lessons from club instructors. At Moree airport.
