Banalasta backdrop for motorbike trials

THE quaint surrounds of Banalasta will rev it up a notch this weekend when the Coonabarabran Motorcycle Club holds its annual two-day mototrials.

The event will head to the picturesque wine and lavender venue just north of Bendemeer.

The landscape lends itself to this type of event and acts as a terrific backdrop for motorbikes with its rocky terrain.

Those planning to visit the venue for wine tasting or a bite to eat will see plenty of action on the course which is situated 400 metres past the Banalasta visitors centre.

It will provide some exciting entertainment and the action will get under way at 10am on Saturday with riders tackling seven laps of a seven-section course.

There will be three grades of riders, ranging from juniors to the experienced grade- one competitors.

Trials are the slowest form of motorcycle sport where riders travel across the varying terrain without putting their feet down or stopping.

The trial bike has no seat and is ridden standing up. It is very lightweight and has one shock absorber.

Banalasta owner Kim Blicking said the visitors centre will be open during the course of the weekend and on Saturday evening for drinks and refreshments.

A prize presentation will be held on Sunday following the completion of the event.
