The Walcha-trained mare, prepared by George Woodward, stuck on well to beat Stoush by a long neck with the Scott Thompson-trained Quirindi gelding Wylinga a half head away third.
Alena Skerrit was the winning jockey, the 22-year-old apprentice winning her 25th race in her second year of riding.
“She rode him well,” Woodward said after the Cup win.
“I knew she’d take a bit of beating but the little girl did good.
“I think we’ve got a handy staying mare.
“She’s only had the three starts for me. She won the first, ran second in the next and won the third today.”
The daughter of Dylan Thomas was sent to Woodward from the Paul Cave stables and Woodward was told if he could win a race with her he could have a half share.
After breaking her maiden at Dubbo she made Saturday’s Murrurundi Cup win an even better result for Woodward.
Lucky Sky broke through for owner Colin Dixon and his brother and trainer Kevin Dixon at Quirindi on Saturday.
They won the Cactus Wilson Memorial Class 1 Handicap (1100m) with the five-year-old bay mare they bought for just $1000 a few months ago.
They were planning to go to Birdsville races as well so decided to take her along with two others.
“She ran a great race up there,” Colin Dixon recalled.
“She flew home to run fifth but should have won it.”
They also stopped in at Morven (near Chareleville) on the way back where she also finished fourth.
The daughter of Lucky Owners is also a BOBs Bonus horse and at her best when she has clear running.
“That’s her second run back for us today since Birdsville,” Kevin Dixon said.
“She might win a few more for us too.”
While Quirindi had a big turnout to its Boxing Day meeting, the local attention now turns to Wallabadah and this Friday’s Wallabadah Cup meeting.
Club president Bill Kelly said the track was in good nick and the facilities would be in sparkling condition come Friday.
Nominations for the Wallabadah Cup meeting close at 11am today.
Feature race is the $8500 Wallabadah Cup, a benchmarked 55 handicap over 1500m.
