Elderly woman’s car rolls near Gunnedah

A 72-YEAR-OLD woman remained in a stable condition at Tamworth hospital last night after her car rolled near Gunnedah yesterday morning.

About 9.20am emergency services, including paramedics, police, the Rural Fire Service, NSW Fire and Rescue and the SES, were called to the scene about 16km west of Gunnedah on the Oxley Highway.

The woman, from Gulargambone, was trapped in the car for more than an hour before she was freed and airlifted to Tamworth hospital with severe neck, back and leg injuries.

She was reportedly alert and her condition was stable when the helicopter left the scene about 11am.

Police said the woman had been travelling from Coonabarabran when it appeared her car veered across to the wrong side of the road.

The vehicle rolled through a gully and came to rest on its wheels, about 40 metres from where it left the road.
