INVESTIGATORS hope forensic testing from bullet fragments found at the scene of a shooting in Coledale on Monday night, could lead them to the person responsible.
Police units responded to reports a shot was fired into a house on Tingira St about 10pm.
Several people were inside the house when the shot was fired but officers say, luckily no one was injured.
A crime scene was established and detectives and forensics crews were recalled to duty to examine the area.
Detectives canvassed the area on foot and Senior police say a number of exhibits including bullet fragments were seized.
Oxley Local Area Command acting Inspector Peter McMenamin said the fragments will be forensically tested to determine if they’re linked to the shooting.
Police hoped further testing would also determine what type of gun was used.
Inspector McMenamin said the shot was fired at the front of the Coledale house and pierced the front wall.
While witnesses told police a car was heard in the area at the time of the shooting, investigators were still trying to determine if the shooting was “a drive by.”
“We can’t identify any specific reason for the incident on those premises or towards the occupants,” Inspector McMenamin said when asked about a motive for the incident.
“The discharge of a firearm is a significant issue and the danger is horrific as you well know.
“We’re responding to this at a proactive level.
“Any knowledge of gun crime or possession of unlawful firearms should always be reported to police.
“There is always the risk of them getting into the wrong hands.”Police were unable to confirm if they were following any strong leads on the case yesterday, but insisted their investigation was ongoing.
