It is the first time the 500cc Solo Title has ever been held indoors and it seemed to suit the Queensland rider as he flew to the top of the timesheet in the NSW Title race before swapping bikes to do the same in the 450cc dirt bike category.
Newcastle rider Mason Campton and Sydney’s Jack Holder were second and third respectively, while British speedway rider Taylor Poole was fourth.
Local entrant Michael Slade just missed out on the speedway finals, qualifying a first reserve after coming out of retirement for the home event, although he made up for it in the sidecar discipline.
Two-time Australian champion and local rider James Hinton teamed up with Slade to take out three of the six heats, although Tim Lawrence and Chris Johnstone took out the three that they missed, landing them on equal points to share the spoils.
Gunnedah flyer Kurtis Tydd won the 250cc race, while young Tamworth racer Cameron Donald took out the junior 250cc class in a top night for the locals.
Tamworth Motorcycle Club president Paul Slade praised the venue and the crowd for the successful premier event.
“A lot of people said it couldn’t be done,” Slade said.
“But we did it and it was a great two nights of racing.”
“We have learnt a lot and will be back.”
The club will now have a few months off before jumping straight back into it next year as it hosts the NSW Sidecar Titles at Oakburn Park in February.
