THE hottest day of spring is coming late this week, and the timing could not be better for the opening of the South and West Memorial Pool (Scully Park), which opened yesterday.
The slide is also in full swing, with the start of the school holidays making it a popular destination.
The gas heating system means the pool can open a fortnight earlier than the other regional pools and keeps the water at a comfortable yet refreshing 25 degrees, meaning the early-morning swimmers can have no fear of the colder nights making the water a bit fresh.
This week of glorious sun starts with 25 degrees today and tomorrow with the temperature rocketing up to 28 degrees on Thursday and 29 degrees on Friday making it the hottest day this spring so far.
According to the Bureau of Meteorology, September temperatures this year have been two degrees warmer during the day and two degrees colder at night on average.
This week and last week are well above the average temperature of 21.1 degrees for September.
The hot weather is expected to continue with above-average temperatures forecast for the next three months, and a dryer, warmer summer than the wet La Nina summer we had last year.
“It is great to have a warm opening week, and we hope to have a warm October to encourage residents to get into the swim of things,” Tamworth Regional Council’s Gary Johnson said.
