NORTHERN Inland’s future in girls’ football is in safe hands after scoring a state title at the under 12s championships at Coffs Harbour yesterday.
On day one, the girls had a couple of scoreless draws but on day two beat Newcastle 2-nil with goals to Tyla Endemi and Gosha Heldtz and then scored a 1-all draw with Mid North Coast and a 2-nil win over North Coast.
Heldtz scored all three goals in those games.
To stand a chance of winning, NIF had to win against Hunter yesterday and did so, with Heldtz scoring again in a 1-nil result.
The last match of the tournament needed to go Northern Inland’s way and it did, with a 1-all draw between Macquarie and Mid North Coast enough to seal the win.
Northern Inland also picked up a couple of good results in the under 14s but that crown went to Newcastle.
The under 14s lost to North Coast and Newcastle on Saturday, drew with Hunter nil-all and beat Far North Coast thanks to a Teaghan Barron strike on Sunday and finished with a 2-1 loss to Macquarie in which Jacinta Thornton scored NIF’s goal.
