I WAS almost dumbfounded when I read Dr Logan’s suggestion that Senator Bernardi’s sacking was somehow a blight on our freedom of speech, rather than the obvious ridiculous statement and connection he made with gay marriage being a “gateway” to a man or woman marrying a goat or chicken.
Even mentioning these two things in the same sentence leaves me scratching my head in utter confusion and disgust.
But the bizarreness doesn’t stop there. Dr Logan goes on to mention that giving consenting gay adults the right to marry may somehow open the door for polygamy and child brides? Wow, now that is a stretch.
I’m pretty sure it’s not illegal to be gay, but I’m almost certain the other two are illegal, so it’s not about rights at all or some moral compass, it’s about keeping legislation up with what is fair and equal.
When will people stop being so apocalyptic about gay marriage and what it will do to the “moral fibre” of our society? It never ceases to amaze me how groups, particularly those of the religious persuasion, always are so outspoken on issues like this, when the fundamentals of all their beliefs are to practice love and acceptance.
Time to get out of the dark ages and use a bit of common sense.
