Following investigations by detectives, prosecutors have now laid four child-sex charges against Matthew Leslie Hyde, who remains on remand in prison.
The 29-year-old is now accused of also using a carriage service to solicit child pornography, possessing material intended to breach section 474.19, using a carriage service to engage in sexual activity with a child, and using a carriage service to procure child under 16 for sexual activity.
He appeared via video link in Tamworth Local Court for the brief proceedings, where the court heard the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) would take over the fresh charges.
“He is now aware of the fresh charges,” solicitor Rae Parker told the court.
“We will be seeking a joint adjournment today.”
The court was told there was still a number of items missing from the brief of evidence relating to the sexual and indecent assaults of three women in
and around the Tamworth CBD on the night of September 19 and into the early hours of the next morning.
“We’re waiting for the DNA material in sequences one, two and three,” Mrs Parker told the court.
The magistrate ordered the complete brief of evidence, relating to all matters to be served by early January.
“The Commonwealth DPP will have to serve the paperwork they rely on,” the magistrate said.
“That will keep some pressure on the DPP.”
Hyde is accused of grabbing a 22-year-old woman and forcing her to the ground before sexually assaulting her in Bicentennial Park during the early hours of September 20.
Police allege Hyde also indecently assaulted an 18-year-old girl who was walking along Kable Ave, as well as another 31-year-old woman as she walked along Bridge St.
The alleged attacks occurred between 11pm and 2.30am when the women were walking alone.
Hyde made no application for bail and it was formally refused.
