Funds for non-profit groups

CHARITIES, non-profit organisations and community groups in the Tamworth Regional Council area are being encouraged to apply for funds through the council’s annual donations program.

A total of $60,000 has been budgeted in 2012/13 for the program which includes a $60 donation the council gives to every school and pre-school in the region each year as a contribution towards their annual presentation days.

Council cultural and community services manager Bruce Mercer said the program aimed to help local not-nor-profit organisations with the cost of providing services tothe Tamworth regional

community. “Last year council funded 65 projects which ranged in value from $200 to $6000 with the most frequent amount allocated being about $500,” he said.

“The successful applications included equipment purchases, help with building costs and printing costs, and providing guest speakers.”

Funds were also given to groups seeking reimbursement of council fees for development applications, rates (excluding service charges), hire fees for use of council facilities such as halls, parks and public buildings and banner fees.

“Recipients of a donation in past years are welcome to reapply for funding this year,” Mr Mercer said. “Organisations may only seek one donation each financial year though.”

Mr Mercer said donations would not be made to individuals, organisations which operate on a for-profit basis, or to branches of charities which fundraise for projects and activities outside the Tamworth Regional Council area. Applications open today and will close Friday, October 19.

Program guidelines and application forms are available from the council’s customer service centres in Tamworth, Manilla, Barraba or Nundle or by calling on 6767 5555. They can also be downloaded from the TRC website at www.tamworth.nsw.gov.au/donations
