The pool saw over 1600 entries from 245 swimmers from around the region and state go head to head over the two days, racing each other as well as the clock.
Barbosa said that by Sunday afternoon many of his 31- strong squad had swum personal best times, while a handful had also claimed gold in several races.
“We have a bit of a smaller and younger group this year,” Barbosa said.
“They have been training really well and improving with every competition.”
Jaimie Prendergast was one swimmer who has impressed the new coach this season.
Prendergast was using the home carnival to prepare for the state and national carnivals early next year and looks to be doing something right, blitzing the field to touch first in both the 200m and 50m butterfly.
Sabine Thompson and Amelia Forsham also recorded good victories on the weekend as they also prepare for a tilt at state and national glory.
“Everyone is swimming well and, most importantly, improving with every carnival and meet,” Barbosa said.
“There have been lots of records breaking as well.
“So far it has been a really good carnival and season so we just have to keep it going into the representative season early next year.”
The state carnival is first off the ranks, kicking off in January at the Homebush Olympic Centre.
Both 360 Scully Park and Tamworth City will have swimmers competing.
