Numbers from PayPal show a whopping 72 per cent of all online transactions in Gurley take place on a mobile device – the average across the country is about 40 per cent.
Clothing, shoes and accessories are the most purchased items by Gurley residents shopping on their mobiles.
Gurley farmer Penny Blatchford said with the town’s isolated location and “fantastic” post office, she could understand why the figure was so high.
“We have a post office that is really accessible and it’s really convenient for us to pop into to pick up parcels,” Ms Blatchford said.
“Shopping online gives people more options – people are really aware of the opportunities that are out there.
“I know a lot of people here use eBay as well.”
Recently someone on her farm bought clothing from Ms Blatchford’s friend in Sydney over eBay.
“We didn’t realise until my friend called me up and told me she was sending a parcel to my farm,” Ms Blatchford said, laughing.
Lucinda Chick operates an online business, Sleep Sanctuary, from her Gurley property.
She said she would often take large orders on her mobile, particularly if she was “out and about” on her property.
“It’s just so convenient and so much easier,” Ms Chick said.
“It’s exactly the same as if I was in a place like Sydney.”
