The equinox – equal hours of daylight and night – and accompanying great weather on Saturday provided a wonderful chance for those who made the trip to the Barraba Cup to celebrate spring fashion.
Fillies enjoyed a balmy 27 degrees and many chose to don some bright colours and floral prints in celebration while watching the action on the track.
Dresses just grazing the knees appeared to be the pick for the day, paired with either sandals and sensible heels for negotiating the track side turf, bar and betting ring.
Mark Mason-trained Emotional Outburst, ridden by jockey Melissa Brown was first-past-the-post in the main race of the day, the Barraba and District Cattle Breeders Barraba Cup.
The Barraba Cup marked the start of a busy few weeks in racing across the north.
Tamworth hosts a race meet at the Jockey Club today and between now and the end of October meetings are scheduled for Gunnedah and Armidale, providing a good lead up to November 6 Melbourne Cup race meets and celebrations.
