THE course record was never threatened, but those clients who played in the annual The Northern Daily Leader Golf Classic on Friday got a taste of The Longyard Golf Course at its best.
Pleasant spring weather provided perfect conditions for the nearly 50 golfers to take on the challenging course. The quick greens proved more than a challenge for some, but in the end it was not the scores that mattered.
The golf classic is held to provide an enjoyable day out and included a cooked breakfast, a round of golf in the two-man ambrose format, a barbecue lunch and the presentation of prizes.
Kylie Ticehurst, The Leader’s print and online advertising manager, said no golfer left the club empty-handed.
“Every golfer won a prize and along with the weather, food and frivolity it was a perfect day,” she said. An interesting feature of The Leader Golf Classic is that many of the people who attend each year are not golfers.
“We take the competition aspect out of our day and concentrate on enjoyment,” Ms Ticehurst said.
“While there are prices for the golf, we simply want our clients to come along and enjoy themselves.
“And I guest that is why so many of our clients keep coming back.
