Kristie Chaffey and Angie Thompson began their much-awaited training with Sensei Hidetada Ishiki in Tamworth after travelling between martial arts schools in the North West region and will travel to Japan next year to train under him on his home soil.
Ishiki was at Chaffey’s Black Belt Academy earlier this month applying his knowledge in practical activity and demonstration and students were grateful for the opportunity to work with an experienced master.
The practical session created a great interest in the arts of Matayoshi Kobudo and may be taught in the future after convincing many people at the Academy that it would be extremely worthwhile to travel to Japan and further their base of knowledge, talent and flair, chief instructor Clint Chaffey said.
“The seminar featured the use of weapons including Bo, Sai, Tunkwa, Nunchaku, Kama, Eku, Kuwa, Sansetu (Three Sectional Staff) and Tinbe (Sword and Shield) followed by the much-awaited black belt gradings and ceremony,” he said.
“Kristie Chaffey added another Dan black belt to her cabinet with her fourth in successive years while Angie Thompson gained her first Dan black belt, which is major stepping stone as a martial artist.
“The two women were presented with their grading certificates in Tamworth after the session and seminar and were ecstatic after putting in a lot of time and effort to achieve their goals.”
