A severe fire danger warning is in place for the Northern Slopes and North Western fire zones today which covers Gunnedah, Gwydir, Inverell, Liverpool Plains, Tamworth, Moree Plains, Narrabri, Walgett and Warrumbungle council areas.
The Rural Fire Service said the total fire ban was in place from midnight last night for 24 hours to counteract any fire danger from the hot and windy conditions forecast by the Bureau of Meteorology.
A very high fire danger warning is in place for the New England zone.
The RFS said during a total fire ban, all fires are prohibited and fire permits are suspended.
The prohibition applies to incinerators and barbecues which burn solid fuel such as wood, charcoal or heat beads and no general purpose welding, grinding, soldering or gas cutting can be carried out in the open.
