The pair are facing a string of offences after they were arrested by highway patrol officers, backed by Armidale police and detectives, who swarmed the area around Erskine St after the car hit a power pole.
The chase was triggered by highway patrol officers who were conducting speed checks about 10.30am yesterday, when the maroon Hyundai Excel was allegedly clocked doing 115km/h in a 50km/h zone.
Police followed the car and signalled for it to pullover, but a pursuit was initiated when it allegedly failed to stop.
Police will allege a 14-year-old boy was behind the wheel and overtook vehicles on double lines in Erskine St to avoid officers.
Extra police backup was called in but the driver, who tried to negotiate a corner into Orr Dr, allegedly lost control, mounted the curb and collided with a power pole.
A 14-year-old boy allegedly ran from the crash scene, but was apprehended nearby, while investigators captured a 14-year-old girl, who they allege was a passenger in the car, shortly after.
Checks revealed the Excel had been reported stolen from an Armidale home shortly before it was intercepted by officers.
The pair were taken to Armidale Police Station and questioned by police before the boy was charged with police pursuit Skye’s Law, exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h, driving in a manner dangerous, driver never licensed, take and drive a vehicle without consent and negligent driving.
The 14-year-old girl, also from Armidale, was charged with being carried in a vehicle taken without consent.
Yesterday afternoon, the pair were granted conditional bail to front Armidale Children’s Court in December.
The vehicle, which sustained damage to its front, was forensically examined and towed from the scene.
