Tamworth Regional Council is at the scene as they carry out emergency repairs to the water main, which has forced the closure of part of the road.
Council says the break is about 400m along the lane from the Goonoo Goonoo Rd roundabout.
Council water and waste operations manager Dan Coe said traffic is being impacted because a large poplar tree needs to be removed before the main can be accessed and repaired.
"One lane of the road is temporarily closed and is expected to remain closed into the afternoon," he said.
The water main failure has left one property without water supply.
