The five-year-old gelding might be round and chubby but he belied his looks and nickname to win Saturday’s Group 1 Feeds Class 2 Handicap (1400m) at Armidale for his owner/trainer Ian Cook.
King Victor is a five-year-old gelding who was having just his 14th start on his home track on Saturday and came up with a second win for Cook and co-owner Narelle McLennan.
“He won his first start for us at Grafton,” Cook said yesterday of the son of Medaglia D’Oro he and his bank manager co-owner bought from Victoria.
“But you can’t pick him. You never know when he’s going to be there.
“The other bloke (Sathern) should have won but got his bit through his mouth.”
He said “Fatso” and Sathern might go to Grafton on December 6 while Our Blevic, who was a winner at the recent Grafton meeting, could be heading to Sydney.
“I might take him to a midweeker in Sydney,” Cook said yesterday.
“He ran fourth at Ipswich last start but was never on the track.
“The young girl who rode him said he was entitled to run last after such a tough run.”
Cook is also appreciative of the help from trackwork rider Dave Murrell.
“He rides all mine work at Armidale,” he said of his stable of three.
“I want to thank Frank (Tanner) and Warren (Gavenlock) too for all their help.”
