TAMWORTH Regional Conservatorium’s 2013 concert season received a boost yesterday – more than $53,700 in funding.
The funding from Arts NSW will be used to help produce a series of 11 concerts as part of the Conservatorium’s 2013 season, including a performance by the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra at the Capitol Theatre, a huge coup for the region.
Conservatorium director Jennifer Turner said the concert would be the first in the region for the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, which pays tribute to the Brandenburg Concertos of JS Bach .
“We have been working hard with our music and community partners to bring to Tamworth , and the surrounding region, music and performances that are truly memorable,” Mrs Turner said.
“We are excited the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra will be part of our 2013 program.”
Conservatorium chairwoman, Meg Larkin, said the 11 concerts that would form the 2013 season would range from individual performances through to orchestras.
“The concert season is designed to offer a variety of music and is part of our audience development program,” Ms Larkin said.
“It not only supports the studies at the conservatorium but also aims to provide a range of music the wider community will watch and enjoy.”
Ms Larkin said among the other highlights of the 2013 season are performances from Tom Burlinson and an eight-piece orchestra; Voicing Emily – a Lider-opera written about the life of Emily Dickinson; string quartet Four Play and the much-enjoyed annual Staff and Friends of the Conservatorium performance.
The Arts NSW allocation of funds – $53,758 – for the 2013 season is slightly more than the $49,705 allocated for the 2012 season and as a result three more shows will be added to next year’s season.
“We are very lucky to have received an increase in funding from last year,” Ms Larkin said.
“It is a very competitive application process because there are about 17 other conservatoriums around the state vying for the same funding and you have to be able to justify how you will spend your allocation.”
