ST JOSEPH’S Primary School at Warialda could well be the home of one of the country’s newest master chefs.
Student Jim Skinner has been named the overall winner of the CAP Chef competition – a program where country kids have been working with X-Treme Chef Consulting to bring rural schools a new cooking educational experience.
Students made their own creations as part of the Hero Ingredient project.
Jim’s cost-effective Beef Islands recipe impressed the judges so much they crowned him the overall winner.
Jim said as part of developing the rissole with mashed potato, peas and corn, he took into account supporting local producers, using local products, healthy eating and a balanced diet.
As part of his prize, the continental director of the World Association of Chefs Societies and the national president will come and cook a dinner for students at Jim’s school.
And his recipe will go global.
The CAP Chef competition involved a five-day roadshow visiting five host schools including Collarenebri Central, Moree Secondary College, Warialda High, Ashford Central and Drake Public School in July.
