TRC said an accessible community “is one in which all facilities and services are open and available to people with disabilities, providing them with the same opportunities, rights and responsibilities enjoyed by all others”.
The types of activities deserving of an Access Award include improved access to buildings (lifts, ramps, automatic doors), major contributions to community life for people with disabilities, advocacy on behalf of people with a disability, employment strategies for people with a disability and communication systems which help access to services (large print, braille, internet access).
Nominations close on Friday, and the awards will be presented on Wednesday, December 2.
Nomination forms are available from council’s customer service centre or online at www.tamworth.nsw.gov.au
