GET your tongs ready and arm yourself with an apron, the Regional BBQ Challenge is on in Inverell this weekend.
The challenge, which is part of a campaign to promote the best food and wine in the New England North West region, is looking for participants from Tamworth.
The Regional BBQ Challenge kicked off on September 1 in Young and is now travelling around regional centres in a bid to find the best barbecue chef in regional NSW.
The first competition was hotly contested, with a range of delicious dishes served up for the judges, and a very happy Andrew Pickwell from Young taking out first place.
Contestants who participate go to the grill to challenge amateur chefs, chefs, butchers and food aficionados.
Challenges are filmed by WIN TV’s Alive and Cooking show and will feature in an episode of the program to be aired later in the year.
En route to filming the Inverell challenge this weekend the Alive and Cooking crew made a stop in Tamworth yesterday to film another segment for the show.
The show’s presenter and chef, James Reeson, and his production crew stopped in at Marlene and Graham Manvell’s Kitty Crawford Estate winery on the Nundle Rd.
Surrounded by bushland, James filmed a segment creating dishes from local produce including Kitty Crawford buffalo, Arc-en-Ciel rainbow trout from Hanging Rock, and olive oil from Uralla.
