65,000 reasons to be happy with outcome of Namoi relay

AT LEAST $65,000 was raised through last weekend’s Namoi Valley Relay For Life to support local cancer patients.

More than 700 people participated in the Cancer Council NSW fundraising event at Narrabri.

“It was the first time we had tried the sun-smart timeslot in the shire, starting at 2pm on Saturday, and the weather was so warm, we’re glad we did,” Alysia Norris, from Cancer Council North West, said.

“The committee worked tirelessly in the months leading up to the event to ensure it ran smoothly and were very happy with the result.”

Money raised at the Relay For Life is used to support local families affected by cancer.

More than 290 local people called the Cancer Council Helpline in 2011-12 for information, referrals and support.

“We know that number would be even higher if more people were aware of the services we have to offer,” Mrs Norris said.
