DAMAGE caused to the viaduct rail overpass at the intersection of Macquarie and Marius streets yesterday would have had council workers feeling a sense of deja vu.
Just after 10.30am council was contacted by a member of the public reporting a truck had struck the bottom of the rail overpass damaging a low clearance warning sign.
Staff attended to fix the damaged sign and while undertaking repairs another truck coming from the opposite direction struck the “low clearance” sign on the opposite side of the bridge.
As a result of the second accident Marius St was closed to traffic while both signs were repaired and the bridge was inspected.
The two incidents yesterday mark the second and third time in six months the signs have been hit by trucks that have underestimated their size.
Marius St was re-opened to traffic just after 2pm yesterday.
Anyone who may have witnessed either of the trucks attempting to pass under the bridge is encouraged to contact the council on 6767 5555.
