I do not represent any group or organisation in relation to this letter and petition on change.org but key players in the Stop Liverpool Mining Projects are aware of it.
This is what I wrote to the PM:
“G’Day, My name’s Jim Guider, I am a third generational son of the Liverpool Plains and Ranges, which my family, like so many others, are physically, emotionally and spiritually connected to.
“The Liverpool Plains and Ranges, a prime agricultural food bowl in the top 9 per cent of agricultural land in Australia, if not the world, is under threat from mining projects, being BHP and Shenhua.
This threat has hung over this area for nine long years causing hardship for many.
BHP, in particular, has a negative environmental record verging on
eco-terrorism, according to media reports, in countries such as Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Indonesia, Borneo, PNG, Canada’s Misery Lake, etcetera.
BHP appears to not be ethically fit and proper to hold a Liverpool Plains mining licence following its Brazil environmental disaster.
The time for action is now to stop these, or any other mining projects ever occurring on the Liverpool Plains/Ranges or any other agricultural food bowl in Australia.
Australia needs to legislate to secure our food and water security for the future of ourselves, our children and our children’s children.
We need your help to not just stop the Liverpool Plains/Ranges mining projects but legislate for future perpetual safety of prime fragile agricultural land, just like New Zealand has done, thereby preserving their clean, green food production.
Prime Minister Turnbull, as a Hunter Valley landowner yourself, with strong spiritual connections to the land, please stop the mining and legislate to protect Australia’s food and water security and Australia’s clean, green agricultural reputation.
Please use your leadership for good, leave a lasting legacy as a compassionate, caring Prime Minister by stopping the BHP, Shenhua and any other projects from occurring on the Liverpool Plains and Ranges.
The time for action is now to end the misery of not knowing that farming communities have endured for nine long years.
The physical, emotional and economic loss is immeasurable.”
Please sign the petition at change.org to achieve 100,000 supporters to protect the future of Australian agriculture, and telling the Prime Minister to legislate to enact food and water security.
City and country, united we stand
Protect our water, protect our land.
Jim Guider
