Tamworth fighter primed for national titles

TAMWORTH martial artist Sam Paton was crowned state champion in two different categories on the weekend and now has his sights set on the nationals.

Paton was one of three Chaffey’s Black Belt Academy members who fought at the Australian Martial Arts Championships (AMAC) State Championships in Sydney.

He competed in four events, picking up state titles in both the kata and points sparring.

The 17-year-old placed  third in the continuous freestyle sparring and fifth in the traditional weapons kata.

His results saw him selected to compete in the AMAC 2012 Australian titles in all four events.

The nationals will be held in Sydney on November 16 and 17.

Brayden Johnston and Kyle Faulkner did not place on the weekend  but also  qualified to fight at the nationals in point sparring, kata and continuous sparring.
