With about 10 months of strict preparation behind him, Mr Rindo, 25, is set to take on the world’s big guns in the Natural Olympia bodybuilding competition.
As the comp’s name suggests, contestants can have no performance-enhancing substances and are subject to regular testing.
Sculpted in his self-described “garage of pain”, Mr Rindo has been hard at work in his home gym training six days a week, while maintaining a strict diet of six meals a day comprising primarily chicken, broccoli and sweet potatoes.
Joshua’s father Sergio, an ex-bodybuilder, has been a great source of inspiration and motivation for the young man, passing on advice and pushing him at training.
While he hopes to out-muscle the competition, Mr Rindo said he’d entered mainly for the experience and as a stepping stone to becoming a personal trainer.
He’s in good form, too, after winning the Sydney Superbodies comp and placing second at the NSW Muscle Model Supershow.
Mr Rindo is in the men’s physique class, up against about 30 others from around the globe, and will be judged not necessarily on size but proportion, definition and poses.
In fact, posing made up a huge part of his preparation, with 10-20 minutes’ practice in front of a mirror each day, making sure the right muscles were on display at the right time.
Mr Rindo also said a good tan went a long way in the bodybuilding comp.
It hasn’t been all pain – the young bodybuilder has allowed himself occasional “cheat meals”, and lists pizza as his favourite indulgence.
Mr Rindo competes from November 12-15.
