The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month attained a special significance in the post-war years.
The moment when hostilities ceased on the Western Front became the time to remember those who had died in the war.
This first modern world conflict had brought about the mobilisation of over 70 million people and left between nine and 13 million dead, perhaps as many as one-third of them with no known grave.
As you all know this year marks the 100 year anniversary of Anzac Day, and I was reminded this week of the significance of Remembrance Day which will be celebrated after a very moving moment at CAPERS.
Our children are performing in the mass choir and as a part of the show they walk slowly across the arena holding poppies singing a beautiful song In Flanders Fields.
CAPERS has been a wonderful experience and I am very proud of our students behavior and participation in the event. Their enjoyment and enthusiasm is evident in their voices and on their faces.
Experiences such as this and our musical "Superkids" are wonderful opportunities for students to perform in front of an appreciative audience.
Children need to be involved in and go to the theatre as much as they can.
They need to hear real music played by real musicians on real instruments as much as they need food and drink, and they need to read and listen to proper stories as much as they need to be loved and cared for.
Our students have been involved in CAPERS and next week they will see their last Musica Viva show for the year. These are valuable opportunities we consider important aspects in our curriculum. At Wallabadah we ensure that our students are involved in the creative and practical arts as much as they can.
