While the club has $2million worth of track upgrading going on and a five-race Melbourne Cup day meeting on its B Grass on Tuesday, the Pink Ribbon Gala Ball is being held in the John Clift Stand at the track tomorrow night.
Doug Selems and Ashleigh Worldon have been busy organising the Pink Ribbon Gala Ball as a fundraiser to conclude Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Selems, a keen racegoer and Tamworth District Cricket Association committee member, believes it will be a big week.
“We’ve still got three tables left,” he said this week.
“It would be great if we could sell them all. It’s for a wonderful cause.
“The Pink Ribbon campaign covers all the cancers – a broad scope of charities”
Tickets are $125 a head or $1100 for a table.
Selems can vouch for the John Clift Stand as a venue because he had a 32nd birthday party there last November when he also celebrated his mum’s 65th and father’s 70th.
“It’s a great spot,” he said.
Selems is also a keen racegoer and will back up at Tamworth on Tuesday.
“We’ve raced a couple of horses in the past.
“I love the racing here.
“It’s always good fun on the Tuesday.”
He and good mates Andrew Clements and Bede Maher actually attended the 2010 Melbourne Cup and had a week there including Ladies Day, a memorable highlight to the Cup week.
Selems’ sporting link doesn’t end there.
He’s also the assistant secretary of the Tamworth District Cricket Association and is also the Tamworth First X1’s manager.
His side plays Narrabri on Sunday in a second-round War Veterans Cup but will be without many of its stars who will be in Ballina playing for the Northern Inland Bolters.
“Yeah, Grothy, Jonesie, Tex and all of them were all coming to the ball too but had to pull out to go to Ballina and play the Northern Rivers Rock.
“It’s a shame they (Cricket NSW) moved the date forward.”
More information and tickets available from Selems (0422 444729).
The Single Builders Melbourne Cup meeting might only be a five-race non-TAB meeting but it will cater for more than 3000 people.
