THREE Tamworth women are fun-raising this weekend to fundraise for cancer research and support.
The Keep On Keeping On team members have been in Relay for Life for five years, celebrating Sheree Cotter’s mother being five years free of lung cancer.
Ms Cotter, singer Allison Forbes and friend Lou MacRae will run a music afternoon tomorrow at the Tudor Hotel, including karaoke, live entertainment and lip sync battles, to boost their fundraising coffers before the relay next weekend.
“Mum is five years lung cancer-free, but has a blood cancer which is treatable but not curable,” Ms Cotter said.
“That’s why Relay for Life is important, because it raises money for support and raises money for people dealing with cancer as well.”
Ms MacRae and Ms Cotter both work at the Tudor Hotel, where staff members have donated their tips for four months. They have raised $1800 so far, with the team’s target being $2500.
“We are pretty close to that but would like to raise another $500 from karaoke,” Ms Forbes said.
“Everyone is affected by cancer. If people can’t make it, people can just donate on the Relay for Life website and search for the team name, or drop money in the tip jar at the Tudor Hotel.”
The $10 entry for the musical afternoon includes lunch and music by Allison Forbes and special guest artists.
Tamworth’s Relay for Life is on October 17 and 18.
