Not content with a Northern Conference game against Quirindi in Tamworth on Sunday they were having a bash under the No. 1 Oval lights last night.
It’s all about the fast approaching State Championships being held in Tamworth from October 18.
The vets will go under lights for that first game tomorrow weekwhen the Sydney 2s and Lithgow-based Western Wildfire will have the privilege of playing under the lights on a big day featuring the opening ceremony and a Plan B T20 match including Australian women’s Southern Star Erin Osborne playing for the Northern Bolters.
Tomorrow’s NC game against Quirindi will be the final “trial” for some of the Tamworth players.
They beat Armidale in Armidale recently in the first game of the new season Northern Conference and will be keen to continue that run, said Tamworth Veterans secretary David Head.
In the State Championships Tamworth will field two teams, a Division 1 side to be captained by Chris Crowell and a Division 2 side to be led by Ron Farrell.
Numbers have been so good for the Tamworth Vets that a composite team has been entered in Division 2 as well, Head said.
“There are still spots available in the Composite team in Division 2 if anyone is interested in a game, even if it’s just for the occasional day,” he said.
“We’ve also done a revised draw for the Division 2 competition as well.”
Tomorrow’s Northern Conference match between Tamworth and Quirindi will start at 10am on No. 1 Oval.
“Quirindi will have a strong side too,” Head said.
“For a small town they do extremely well, although they have been struggling a little for numbers recently.”
